seizure magazine flashers
In early May 2016, I began a 12-week short term contract as an illustrator for the online edition of Seizure magazine. Seizure release what they refer to as “Flashers” each week, short stories and works of fiction published in their online magazine. Each week for 12 weeks, I was supplied the story in advance and created an imaginative illustration based on the subject matter. What put me ahead of the other illustrators was that I created animated .gif illustrations, rather than simple still images, to keep with the mobile and digital nature of the online magazine.
Each week I then went through the process of reading the rough edit of the final story, selecting the key elements I wanted to work with and building short animatics for two or three key ideas. I would then select the strongest idea and deliver the finished work to Seizure. Each animation I created loops perfectly, and was animated in either Photoshop or After Effects, or a combination thereof.
